History of Fireteam Ops

Fireteam Ops is the main three-player matchmade playlist in the Portal.
Overview
It is the The Edge of Fate successor to Vanguard Ops and collects most matchmade PvE content: Strikes, Battlegrounds, Empire Hunts and older seasonal activities, for players of all skill levels. Destinypedia describes them as activities for 1 to 3 Guardians, scored by combatants defeated (tougher enemies are worth more points), typically lasting 10 to 40+ minutes; Shattered Vault lists Strikes, Battlegrounds, Expeditions and Reclaim, and notes kills (including those in boss fights) matter more than speed.
Launching
Open the Portal and pick Fireteam Ops, either launching an activity individually or through the Quickplay playlist (Destinypedia). Difficulty and challenge modifiers can be added to improve rewards. Shattered Vault lists six difficulty levels from Normal to Ultimate; Grandmaster is the highest matchmade tier and starts Tier 5 rewards, while Ultimate needs a premade fireteam.
Rewards
Rewards scale with difficulty. Commander Zavala handles Vanguard rewards and engram focusing, and legacy weapons stay obtainable through Xûr (Shattered Vault).
History
Described by guides as a rebranded Vanguard Ops, which itself had absorbed the Strike Playlist and Battlegrounds in The Witch Queen. Contents rotate, so check in game. Dated note: Wikipedia and Shattered Vault report that the Monument of Triumph update (June 2026) replaced the Portal screen with the Director's seasonal hub, so the Portal-based launch described here may be outdated.
