History of Exotic

Overview

Exotic is the highest standard rarity tier for weapons and armor in Destiny 2. Exotic gear has distinctive intrinsic effects or perks, which set it apart from ordinary Legendary equipment. The game generally limits a Guardian to one Exotic weapon and one Exotic armor piece at a time; Exotic class items and mode-specific rules are exceptions.

Exotic is a rarity, while ammo type, damage type, and weapon slot are separate properties. Some Exotic weapons use Special or Heavy ammunition, and some use nonstandard damage types.

Acquisition

Exotics come from several sources, including quests, activities, focused engrams, vendors, and the Monument to Lost Lights. A specific item's page gives its current acquisition route.
