History of 7th Book of Sorrow

The 7th Book of Sorrow is a Hive text translated and annotated by Teben Grey. Its passages are included in the lore book For Every Rose, a Thorn, introduced in Season of the Drifter, where letters from Shin Malphur to the Guardian are paired with the Book's texts. Each Book of Sorrow section is followed by a handwritten note from Grey.

The book is divided into four sections: EVOLUTION, SUFFERING, ANGER and EMPTINESS. Each contains seven numbered statements and an Understanding quote. The ANGER section's 12th Understanding frames ignorance as an aggressive failure that angers those who seek to evolve. Grey's note in that section says Cull agreed to splinter off as bait for the Renegade. Entries in For Every Rose, a Thorn unlock with kills using Thorn.
